Alterations & extensions to an existing dwelling (1970’s) to provide accessible accommodation & facilities – The client was a 7yr old girl, with Cerebral Palsy due to medical negligence at the time of birth. SRM were approached by the client’s mother & father to initially assess the property for suitability to be adapted for their daughters & families long term needs & care requirements. SRM were employed by Kester Cunningham John solicitors on behalf of the client to design & project manage the significant alterations & extensions etc, required. The brief was to design the alterations & extensions required to provide an accessible 3 bedroom family home with attached accommodation for the client & her carers.


The clients ground floor accommodation comprising of large entrance hall, sensory room, bathroom, bedroom, with an internal lift to a dayroom & the first floor carers accommodation (double bedroom, bathroom & kitchen/living/dining). SRM worked very closely with the family, KCJ & OT’s to provide the required facilities. Where possible, the thermal efficiency of the building was maximised, solar panels were installed providing hot water, heat recovery ventilation was also added to some areas of the building. Recently Photovoltaic panels have also been added by the client.
